THE DECISION
The decision to replace Copilot's bespoke code exploration tools with the shared Unix-inspired tools from the Copilot CLI harness was a strategic move aimed at reducing redundancy and fostering shared improvements across products. This required alignment across product management, engineering, and operations teams to ensure that the transition would not disrupt existing workflows. The tradeoff involved potentially sacrificing the tailored functionality of the original tools for the benefits of a unified infrastructure. Initially, this decision seemed to result in higher costs and reduced issue detection, but a subsequent reevaluation of the review instructions led to a successful outcome. The alignment process was challenging due to differing priorities and the initial unexpected regression in performance.
THE LESSON
